The Louisiana Collection is housed on the sixth floor of the Law Library.  Specific inquiries concerning this collection should be directed to Carla Pritchett, Government Documents/Microforms Librarian; Room 514; 504-865-5994.  For assistance after hours, please go to the Reference Desk in the library lobby.

Louisiana Collection

The Louisiana Collection is located on the 6th floor of the Library.  There are two parts to this collection: (1) books pertaining to Louisiana law that are found by searching our online catalog (call numbers beginning with KFL); and (2) documents issued by the State of Louisiana that form our Louisiana Depository Collection (some of these items will appear in the online catalog but many will not, please ask for help).  In addition, other Louisiana related materials, including the Louisiana Statutes Annotated, the Southern Reporter, the Louisiana Digest, the Louisiana Law Review, and an additional set of the Tulane Law Review are shelved in this area.

Louisiana State Documents Depository Program

The Louisiana State Documents Depository Program was established by the Louisiana Legislature in 1948. This program assures that the state’s citizens have free, convenient access to Louisiana’s public documents.  The public documents from state agencies and institutions are distributed to the 41 academic, public and special depository libraries where everyone can use these materials.  Tulane Law Library is a State Depository Library.  All library patrons, who are not from the law school community, wishing to use the Louisiana Depository during restricted hours are asked to sign a guest registry and present a picture ID to the Circulation Desk attendant.  To use these materials during hours of restricted access without an Access Card, please call the Circulation Desk at (504) 865-5952 and ask for admittance.  A campus telephone is located in the courtyard at the back entrance to the law school building. Public patrons are admitted into the building and the law library with the understanding that the patron will restrict their use of the facilities to the Louisiana Depository Collection.  Patrons wishing to have general access to the building or to all materials and services within the law library must come during regular hours of operation (Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.).

All documents contained in the Louisiana Depository Collection are arranged by issuing agency, using a system similar to the one for  federal government documents.  These items will not appear in the Library's online catalog.  Therefore, specific inquiries concerning Louisiana public documents should be directed to Carla Pritchett, Reference and Government Documents/Microforms Librarian; Room 514; 504-865-5994.  For assistance after hours, please go to the Reference Desk in the library lobby.

Computer Workstation

To access Louisiana government websites, a computer workstation is located at the entrance of the Louisiana Depository.  The State Library's online catalog lists many of them Louisiana state documents and is a good place to begin a search.  Tulane Law Library also provides free public access to Westlaw, which can be used on two computer workstations designated for this purpose in the library's lobby.  Using Westlaw, patrons can search for Louisiana bills (both current and historical), perform a full-text search of the Louisiana Statutes Annotated, or access other useful databases pertaining to Louisiana law.
