The sea, washing the equator and the poles, offers its perilous aid, and the power and empire that follow it.... “Beware of me,” it says, “but if you can hold me, I am the key to all the lands.”   Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882); U.S. Poet and Philosopher; "Wealth," The Conduct of Life (1860).

Maritime Collection

The Library has a comprehensive and impressive collection of maritime law publications that are shelved in a separate section on the third floor  This collection continues to grow steadily in order to support the interests of our faculty and student body, the Maritime Law Center, the Tulane Maritime Law Journal, and programs of study in maritime law.  There is also an area in the Reserve Collection designated as Maritime Reserve.  Here, our library patrons will find current hornbooks as well as the most recent volumes of the AMC (American Maritime Cases) and the most recent binders for Benedict on Admiralty.

The Maritime Collection consists of the major treatises, case reporters, journals, looseleaf services, and monographs related to this area of specialization.  All books shelved in the Maritime Collection are indicated in the online catalog by a location of "Maritime."  When searching the catalog, researchers may limit their results to materials contained in this collection by:  (1) conducting a Key Word search; and  (2) restricting the search to a particular location -- in this case  "Maritime."  Since some publications may cover multiple disciplines, patrons should also do a general catalog search without using field limitations for a more thorough and complete search of our holdings.
