Biography:

Professor Friedman's undergraduate degree is from Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations. He teaches in the areas of employment discrimination law, labor law, mediation, and civil procedure.  He is the author of Friedman's The Law of Employment Discrimination; Employment Discrimination: Examples & Explanations; co-author of The Law of Civil Procedure: Cases and Materials; and editor of Employment Discrimination Stories.  He has also published law review articles in the fields of employment discrimination and labor law.  An avid runner, scuba diver, and squash player, Professor Friedman was formerly the drummer for “The Walking Dogs,” a New Orleans rock-and-roll band, and has appeared in the New Orleans Opera Association production of “Aida.”  In addition, Professor Friedman has served as a consultant to the Louisiana legislature on equal employment opportunity, child abuse, and gender-neutral insurance rating.  He is an expert in computer-assisted legal instruction who has lectured throughout the country on how law schools can integrate developing technologies into legal education.  Professor Friedman is a past recipient of the Felix Frankfurter Teaching Award, conferred each year by the graduating class. His biography of the late Judge John Minor Wisdom, Champion of Civil Rights, was published by LSU Press in January, 2009.
