Biography:
Lisa Jordan is a native New Orleanian. She received her J.D. and followed up with an LL.M. in Environmental Law from Tulane in 1991. She went on to practice criminal law as an assistant district attorney in Orleans Parish for 4 ½ years, then came to Tulane as a supervising attorney in the Environmental Law Clinic in 1996. During that period she spent much of her time leading the Clinic’s legal team in representation of a grassroots citizen group in Convent, Louisiana, along with the Louisiana Environmental Action Network (LEAN), in opposing permits to Shintech Corporation for a massive polyvinyl chloride plant. Lisa and the Clinic’s representation of these groups in the face of massive political and financial resistance and interference led to them being named Runner-Up for the National Law Journal’s Lawyer of the Year award. After serving as Acting Head of the clinic in 1999-2000, she temporarily left the practice of law to raise her children and she is now back at the clinic as a supervising attorney. Her practice now focuses mostly on water law issues, including wetlands, and she has worked on regulations implementing wastewater assimilation projects in wetlands.
