Frilot partner Andrew S. deKlerk specializes in the litigation and arbitration of international maritime cases. As co-leader of the Admiralty and Maritime Practice Group at Frilot LLC, Mr. deKlerk handles a wide range of clients, including domestic and international Protection and Indemnity Clubs, commodities traders, marine suppliers, tug boat owners and barge owners.
Originally from South Africa, Mr. deKlerk has practiced in the United States for 30 years. He handles a large share of the firm’s international arbitration workload, traveling around the globe to help settle complicated international maritime cases ranging from personal injury, property damage, collision and allision, defense and indemnity obligations pursuant to contract, as well as insurance coverage issues. Mr. deKlerk has handled cases for clients in a host of locations around the world, including Vietnam, Paris, Cairo, and London. These cases mostly involve disputes related to commodity contracts, particularly fertilizers and nitrates.
A graduate with distinction from Tulane Law School, Mr. deKlerk has taught in the Admiralty Program at his alma mater since 1983. He is a member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States, the Southeast Admiralty Law Institute, the Louisiana State Bar Association, and the New Orleans State Bar Association. Mr. deKlerk has twice been named a Louisiana Super Lawyer.
