The Institute’s mission is to foster the development of laws and policies that promote sustainable management of water resources. The Institute is based in Louisiana, a place where climate change, wetland loss, and community dislocation are all urgent and interrelated problems. We consider the combined effects of these issues as well as the potential for addressing them collectively through coordinated action. Although out area of focus is Louisiana and the Gulf Coast, our sphere of activity is national and international. We complement this geographic focus with a commitment to comprehensive action as well as keen focus on achieving meaningful and timely results.
Our real world approach requires us to think carefully about how to achieve effective action: do laws and policies prevent or encourage innovation? Are new laws or policies needed? Do the agencies charged with developing plans and projects have the capacity to succeed? How can communities better engage these agencies? Seeking answers to these questions lies at the heart of what we do.
