Fourth Annual NLLSA Moot Court Competition
National Latina/o Law Student Association (NLLSA) is proud to announce the Fourth Annual NLLSA Moot Court Competition, which will be held
Thursday, September 29 - Friday, September 30, 2011
Tulane University Law School | Loyola University New Orleans College of Law
New Orleans, Louisiana
Sponsored by
The National Latina/o Law Student Association’s Annual Moot Court Competition is an opportunity for law students to hone their legal research, writing and oral advocacy skills while competing against students from across the country. At the Competition, students will practice their litigation abilities in front of legal practitioners and will receive feedback and advice indispensable to any lawyer considering a career in litigation.
NLLSA’s Moot Court Competition also gives students the opportunity to become experts in a contemporary and controversial area of the law. Last year, participants considered whether the Immigration and Nationality Act could impose different residency requirements on unwed citizen-fathers as compared to unwed citizen-mothers whose foreign-born children seek derivative citizenship, paralleling a case that was being considered by the U.S. Supreme Court, Flores-Villar v. United States.
This year's problem will address a theoretical petition to the Supreme Court of the Ninth Circuit decision in The United States of America v. The State of Arizona, arguing the constitutionality of the controversial Arizona Senate Bill 1070, the "Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act."
The Fourth Annual Moot Court Competition will take place during the two days before the NLLSA Conference in New Orleans, September 28-29 at Tulane University Law School and Loyola University New Orleans College of Law. It is a unique opportunity for 2Ls and 3Ls to compete at a national level and engage in an in depth discussion about a contemporary legal issue affecting Latinas/os today, all while visiting beautiful New Orleans and networking with the future of the legal profession.
