This scholarship fund was created and endowed in 1986 by Mrs. Berthe Amoss and her husband, James Amoss, in memory of Mrs. Amoss's father, Sumter Marks. Endowment funds were also contributed by Mr. Marks's law firm, Phelps, Dunbar, Marks, Claverie & Sims. Sumter Marks was a 1916 graduate of Tulane Law School and was named Distinguished Alumnus in 1982. The scholarship is awarded to a first-year student from Louisiana.
