Tulahe Law School is located in uptown New Orleans, in the center of the Tulane University campus.  Its student body comes from throughout the United States and abroad, as does its faculty.  Tulane offers a JD program, as well as six different LLM programs and an SJD program.

JD Program

Size of JD Student Body:  750

The JD program requires completion of 88 credit hours over three years (six semesters), plus 30 hours of pro bono service and completion of writing requirement.  The JD program is offered only on a full-time basis.

All first -year courses are required.  Thereafter, the only requirement is the 3-credit Legal Profession course.


LLM/SJD Program

Size of LLM/SJD Student Body:  approximately 50

Degrees offered: 

  • General LLM
  • LLM in Admiralty
  • LLM in American Business Law
  • LLM in American Law
  • LLM in Energy & Environment
  • LLM in International & Comparative Law
  • Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD)

The LLM Program requires completion of 24 credit hours over one year (two semesters).   Attorneys practicing full time in the New Orleans area may pursue the LLM in Admiralty or the LLM in Energy & Environment on a part-time basis, over four semesters.

The SJD program requires completion of 12 hours of coursework and a dissertation.
