The Mardi Gras Competition is an appellate advocacy tournament, which has established a reputation as one of the most exciting and enjoyable competitions in the country. Now in our 15th year, we intend to continue the success of past tournaments by providing another exciting sports law problem, as well as another field of teams from prestigious law schools around the country.
The Mardi Gras Invitational is held during New Orleans' famed Mardi Gras festival. This year, the tournament will begin on the morning of Wednesday, February 10, 2010. The Final Round is scheduled for argument on Friday, February 12, 2010 at the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. The competitors will be treated to activities, which celebrate the unique spirit of the Mardi Gras season. In the past, this has included grandstand seats for a Mardi Gras parade, a balcony overlooking Bourbon Street, and dinners at some of New Orleans’ many fine restaurants.

Problem
The 2010 Mardi Gras Competition Problem has been forwarded to registered teams via e-mail. This is a closed packet, so the only authority you may cite in briefs or argument are those cited in the packet. Judges will be informed as to this fact. You will only be scored as to your ability to verbally and orally argue the facts, issues, and authorities already present in the problem packet. (This includes the full text of authorities and any attached syllabus or drafting history). Therefore your briefs and oral arguments are limited to these. We cannot control all your reading, but these limits exist for the scoring of the competition.
