Fall 2009

  • Sep. 1:  Farm Sanctuary participates at the Pro Bono fair.  4 PM in the MPR.
  • Sep. 2:  First meeting of the semester.  6 PM in the West Courtyard.  Dinner served.
  • Sep. 7:  Non-SALDF vegan potluck.  Please e-mail kschlemmer@gmail.com for details.
  • Sep. 23:  Delci Winders joins SALDF to discuss her work as Director of Legal Campaigns for Farm Sanctuary.  6 PM.  Room TBD.  Dinner served.
  • Oct. 4:  Tulane's SALDF walks in Farm Sanctuary's Walk for Animals.  Register here:  http://www.firstgiving.com/farmsanctuary.
  • Oct. 7:  Carter Dillard, Westerfield Fellow at Loyola University's College of Law and Of Counsel to Humane Society of the United States, will join Tulane's SALDF on Wednesday, October 7, for a lively discussion on animal law.  6 PM.  Room 151.  Dinner served.
  • Oct 29:  Loyola's Animal Relief hosts an Animal Awareness luncheon.  The luncheon will include presentations on animal cruelty & blood sports, Katrina animal rescues, animal ethics, euthanasia, and animal law.  Join the conversation and meet like-minded animal advocates on Thursday, October 29 from 12:30 to 2:30 P.M. in the Audubon Room of the Danna Student Center on Loyola's main campus.  The panel will be followed by a screening of Earthlings.  Vegan pizza will be provided.  For more informaiton, please e-mail Animal Relief at awlynne@yahoo.com.
  • Nov. 12:  Kathryn Destreza of the Louisiana SPCA is tentatively scheduled to join us for a lunchtime discussion on the prosecution of animal cruelty.  Check back here for more information.

Spring 2009

  • Feb. 10:  Screening of Blinders, followed by group discussion.
  • Mar. 3:  Screening of Mississippi Chicken in conjunction with La Alianza del Derecho as part of Human Rights Film Week (Mar. 2-6).
  • Mar. 25:  Animal Law presentation as part of the 1st Annual Louisiana Week for the Animals
  • Apr. 3-4:  Panel at the Tulane Law School Summit on Environmental Law & Policy.  This panel, entitled "Low Carbon Diet," will feature Mike Tidwell, Founder and Director of the Chesapeake Climate Action Network and host of the radio show Earthbeat, and Gowri Koneswaran, Director of Animal Agricultural Impacts in the Farm Animal Program of the Humane Society of the United States.  Mary Reichert, recent Tulane Law alum and current law clerk to the Hon. Martin L. C. Feldman, will moderate.
  • late Apr.:  CLE on Animal Law presented in conjunction with the Louisiana Bar Association's Animal Law Section
  • Campus outreach project
  • Establishment of a volunteer project (information forthcoming)

Fall 2008 

  • Discussion with Carter Dillard, Westerfield Fellow at Loyola University, Of Counsel to the Humane Society, and Research Fellow at the Optimum Population Trust
  • Discussion with Ariel DiGiulio, chair of the Louisiana State Bar Association's Animal Law Section and local attorney with animal law practice
  • Screening of An American Opera followed by a panel discussion guided by the film's director Tom McPhee
  • Screening of Year of the Dog
  • Observation of migratory ducks and assistance with related research project
