Professor Cynthia “Cindy” A. Samuel has been selected by the Louisiana Bar Foundation to receive the “2007 Distinguished Professor” award, which will be presented at the Annual Fellows Gala on April 18th, 2008. The Board of Directors for the Bar Foundation selected Samuel for her many contributions to the legal profession and the community.
Samuel has been a member of the Tulane Law School faculty for more than thirty years, following several years of practice in New Orleans. During that time she has taught a wide variety of principally civil law courses and, through her publications and related professional activities, became a leading expert in the state and beyond in the areas of community property, successions, and elder law. In addition, she has been a long-time member of the Louisiana Law Institute, sitting on a number of committees and taking a lead role in the drafting and enactment of new legislation that has improved and modernized our law in Louisiana.
Cindy Samuel graduated from Louisiana State University in 1969 and received her J.D. from Tulane Law School in 1972. A Member of the Order of the Coif and Associate Editor of the Tulane Law Review, she studied Comparative Family Law at the University of London upon graduating law school.
