National Urban League lauds Tulanians for service

January 02, 2014

The National Urban League has honored four Tulanians for having “given back to their community by working to improve the city’s quality of life in a manner consistent with the mission of the National Urban League.” The league works on empowering communities through economic self-reliance, educational improvement, youth development and civil rights advocacy.

Tulane Law School Professor Tania Tetlow, Judges Terri Fleming Love (L ’86) and Robin Giarrusso (L ’77) and lawyer Tim Francis (L ’84) received awards from league President Marc Morial, former New Orleans mayor, at a December luncheon recognizing 13 local leaders, theadvocate.com reported.

The awards were as follows:

Tetlow: New Generation Leaders for a New Century award.
Tetlow, a graduate of Tulane University and Harvard Law School, directs Tulane Law School’s Domestic Violence Clinic and holds the Felder-Fayard Endowed Early Career Professorship.

Love and Giarrusso: Distinguished Public Service awards.
Love, chief deputy New Orleans City Attorney during Morial’s tenure as mayor, was a civil district judge for five years before first being elected to Louisiana’s 4th Circuit Court of Appeal in 2000. She was re-elected in 2004 to a 10-year term.

Giarrusso, a judge for Orleans Parish’s 41st Judicial District Civil Court (Division G), has served since 1988.

Francis: Champion of the Arts award.
Francis, who is of counsel to Sher Garner Cahill Richter Klein & Hilbert, is a Board of Tulane member and has been involved in numerous community programs, including as a New Orleans Museum of Art board member. He’s former president of the Stevie Wonder Foundation.
