Marmara University’s Professor Pinar Akan, a regular visitor to Tulane Law School, organized an international maritime law conference in May in Istanbul. Tulane’s conference delegation included Dean David Meyer, Admiralty Law Institute Professor Martin Davies, Professor Claire Dickerson, Professor Thanassi Yiannopoulos, and New Orleans maritime lawyer and Adjunct Professor Michael Butterworth. All participated as speakers during the program. In commenting on the program, Professor Davies noted that “the topics were particularly wide-ranging, and attendees came from throughout the world.” Dean Meyer commented, upon his return from Turkey, that “the conference has helped to foster close ties between Tulane and Marmara University.”
