Julie H. Jackson, assistant dean for Public Interest Programs at Tulane University Law School, has been selected as a recipient of the MUSKIE Max (Mentor/Advisor Exchange) fellowship through the Edmund S. Muskie Fellowship Program. Between October 9 and 17, 2011,
Dean Jackson will travel to Ukraine, where Muskie alumna Natalia Okolita (LLM ’09) will serve as host. A labor and employment law scholar, Jackson will hold a workshop at the Institute of International Relations in Kyiv, Ukraine, focusing upon the Process and Practice of Mediation, which she teaches as a seminar at Tulane Law School.

Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program Muskie Mentor/Advisor Exchange (MAX)
The
Muskie Mentor/Advisor Exchange (MAX) program supports continued professional relationships between Muskie alumni and their American host advisors, supervisors, professors, and mentors. The program enables Muskie alumni, working in collaboration with a host mentor or advisor, to create and implement a professional education workshop in the alumnus/a’s home country. Mentors/advisors travel to Eurasia to conduct or co-conduct workshops focusing on topics relevant to continuing professional education. The Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program is administered by IREX and funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State.
Julie H. Jackson
Following graduation from law school, Assistant Dean Jackson clerked for the United States District Court, Central District of California. She subsequently practiced labor and employment law, first with a private firm in Atlanta, Georgia, and then on behalf of the federal government. In 1988, she came to Tulane Law School to establish and to oversee the newly approved Community Service Program, the first mandatory pro bono program at an American law school. In addition to her responsibilities for pro bono activities at the Law School, she is Director of the Externship Program. She has coordinated the New Orleans EEOC Pilot Mediation Program and served as mediator in employment discrimination cases. She teaches a seminar in mediation.
