Tulane University Law Professor Edward F. Sherman, a former Army JAG officer, was a commentator on "The Abrams Report" on MSNBC on January 12, 2005. The program concerned the court martial of Sgt. Graner, the first of the Abu Ghraib prison guards to be tried for abusing prisoners.
Sherman commented that the defense counsel's comparison of stacking nude prisoners in a pyramid with cheerleading was inapt, but that there were issues as to whether official policies concerning humiliation of prisoners to obtain information could be used as a defense.
