Fortune Magazine looked to Tulane University Sports Law Expert Gary Roberts for comment in an extensive article on NASCAR, the fastest-growing sports business in America.
In the September 5th issue, Professor Roberts comments on antitrust concerns voiced by some about the tightly controlled racing enterprise that effectively excludes others from NASCAR's lucrative benefits.
"There's no question that NASCAR has some vertical integration," Roberts says in the article. "On the other hand, you might say there's nothing inherently anticompetitive about an entity vertically integrating, if it doesn't injure the consumer."
