Why has it taken Major League Baseball to move toward stricter antidoping rules? The December 9, 2004 edition of the Wall Street Journal analyzed the issue and turned to Tulane Sports Law Expert Gary Roberts for comment. According to Professor Roberts, the answer may be rooted in the fractured nature of the relationship between management and the players union.
"The owners thought the players were a bunch of ungrateful punks," Roberts told the Journal. "It has not been until very modern times that you've seen that begin to erode, but it's still there."
