Edward T. Hayes, an adjunct lecturer at Tulane Law School, was credentialed to attend and participate in the World Trade Organization’s 6th Ministerial Conference in Hong Kong, China beginning on December 13, 2005. Mr. Hayes participated in the conference in his capacity as a representative of the non-governmental organization, Trade Capacity Building Institute, Inc. and as the City of New Orleans’ representative on the Office of the United States Trade Representative, Intergovernmental Policy Advisory Committee.
The WTO’s 6th Ministerial Conference marked a major opportunity for the 150 Members of the WTO to assess progress in the Doha Round of trade negotiations. WTO Members hope to conclude the trade round, which is focused on special and differential treatment for developing countries, by 2007. Hayes is also a partner at the Saporito Law Firm in New Orleans. He is teaching a seminar on the WTO this spring at Tulane Law School.
