Tulane SLS Hosts the National Baseball Arbitration Competition

The Tulane Sports Law Society is excited to once again host the National Baseball Arbitration Competition (NBAC)! The NBAC is a simulated salary arbitration competition modeled on the procedures used by Major League Baseball (MLB).  The competition allows law students from over 40 schools worldwide to sharpen their oral and written advocacy skills within the specialized context of Major League Baseball’s arbitration proceedings.

Additionally, the competition allows students to interact with some of baseball’s leading executives, agents, writers, team counsel, and arbitration experts as these individuals serve as the judges for the competition. This year’s list of judges includes Robert Manfred (MLB Executive Vice President of Economic and League Affairs), Nona Lee (Senior Vice President and General Counsel of the Arizona Diamondbacks), Bryan Minniti (Assistant General Manager of the Washington Nationals), and Jerry Crasnick (Writer for ESPN.com and Baseball America).

At the conclusion of the competition, the Tulane Sports Law Society hosts a symposium featuring a panel of experts to discuss legal issues facing baseball.   This year’s competition will take place on Tulane’s uptown campus January 24-25, 2013.  The Symposium is open to the public and will take place at McAlister Auditorium on January 25 at 4:30pm. For more information, visit the NBAC website.
