Tulane Law School strives to create opportunities that enhance our students' practical skillsets in order to better prepare them for their jobs following law school. Through partnerships with local legal professionals, alumni, employers and law school faculty, Tulane Law works to supplement the classroom experience with programs such as Intersession "Boot Camp", externships, judicial clerkships and pro bono opportunities.

COMMENCEMENT 2017

MARCH 7 & 8, 2017 (TUES./WED.):
(for students) Grad Fest 2017

Lavin-Bernick Center for Student Life

 Grad Fest is held annually each spring for students to order their academic regalia, announcements, cap-and-gown pictures, etc. NOTE: This is the opportunity for students to pick up the cap and gown needed for procession in the May 20 commencement ceremonies.

MAY 19, 2017 (FRI.):

Law School Awards Ceremony (by invitation only)

  • 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM
  • Tulane Law School, Weinmann Hall
  • Reception beginning at 5:00 pm in the Multipurpose Room
  • Remarks: SBA President, 2016-2017

 Only after final spring grades are received and all calculations and selections have been finalized, the Office of Academic Services, Tulane Law School, extends invitations to those students who will be receiving awards. The event begins at 5:00 pm with a reception in the Berkett Multipurpose Room (MPR) with distribution of awards at 5:30 p.m. in the W. H. Gauthier Appellate Moot Court Room (Room 110 of John Giffen Weinmann Hall).

Open to: Award Recipients and their Family, award sponsors, Law administration, faculty and staff

WaveGoodbye Party

  • 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
  • Gibson Academic Quad, uptown campus

Wave Goodbye is an annual party given by the president that is modeled after New Orleans' many springtime festivals. Graduates from all schools and their guests are invited to mingle on Gibson Quad on the uptown campus on Friday, May 19, 6-8 p.m.

The event will feature local music and multiple booths will serve a variety of New Orleans food in small plates. Wine and beer will be available for purchase (cash only).

MAY 20, 2017 (SAT.):

UnifiedCommencement Ceremony

9:00 a.m. (approximately 2 hours) (doors open at 8:00 a.m.)

Mercedes-Benz Superdome, downtown

 Tulane University’s Unified Commencement Ceremony honors the graduates from all of the university's schools and colleges. It features the pomp and circumstance expected of a traditional commencement celebration but with a New Orleans twist. At this ceremony you can expect to see the procession of graduates and faculty, the keynote address from a prestigious speaker, the conferral of degrees and hear live jazz.

Open to: Faculty, Graduate students, Parents, Undergraduates

Transportation

ü Parking is available at the Superdome for $15 (cash only).

ü Students and their families may utilize the free shuttle service from Tulane’s uptown Campus.

ü Guests with physical challenges should enter the Superdome through gate A (Poydras St.) on the ground level. This entrance is a covered drop-off area for disabled access. Wheelchairs will be available for transportation to and from handicapped seating; however, for those who wish to have a wheelchair with them at all times, it will be necessary to bring one with you. Handicapped-accessible shuttle service will be available from the uptown campus to the Superdome downtown and back.

LawSchool Graduation Ceremony

4:00 PM (approximately 90 minutes) (doors open at 3:00 p.m.)

Avron B. Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse

Following the university’s unified ceremony held earlier in the day downtown, Tulane Law School will hold a separate graduation ceremony at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse.   While the conferral of degrees takes place during the morning event, which honors the graduating students from all of the university's schools and colleges, the law school ceremony is dedicated specifically to the law class of 2017.

Featuring a procession of law graduates and faculty members, a tribute to the 50-year law alumni, and brief remarks by the law school dean, class president, and a distinguished alum, it is during this intimate occasion each graduate's name is called and he or she crosses the stage.

Open to: Tulane Law School community

Tickets: Not required

Admission: Free

Parking will be available in the Diboll Complex and Loyola Garage and shuttle service is available from the Superdome to the Uptown campus.

Guests with physical challenges should utilize the reserved seating area which will be located on the ground level behind the area reserved for graduates. One friend or family member may accompany this person throughout the ceremony. The area will be marked accordingly and volunteers will be on hand to assist, as well.

  TULANE LAW SCHOOL RECEPTION

Please join Tulane Law School Dean David Meyer and the law school community in congratulating this year’s graduates. Complimentary refreshments and light fare will be served for the hour following the school’s diploma ceremony.
