| Course Description | | | This course will expose students to the process of mediation as a dispute resolution mechanism. The first three classes will focus on unassisted negotiation in order to lay a foundation for the study of mediation or assisted negotiation. Through the use of simulation techniques, classroom discussion, and review of videotapes, the students examine various analytical models and explore many of the contexts in which mediation may be used. Dean Jackson plans to invoke a rule penalizing students for lack of preparedness and/or excessive absenteeism. NOTE: Students who accept a place in Dean Jackson’s Mediation seminar can not drop after the first week of class. (IMPORTANT: The rules for seminar registration apply to this course). NOTE: Students who take and receive credit in Mediation are not allowed to receive credit in the Berlin summer abroad Intercultural Negotiation and Mediation course.
