| Course Description | | | This course focuses on governmental mechanisms designed to deal with urban and suburban land use issues and problems. The interplay between law, local government discretion, and democratic processes will be examined, with a particular emphasis on the influence of third-party rights on land development. Topics include zoning, local, regional, and statewide planning, subdivision regulations, regulatory takings, historic preservation, fair housing, urban redevelopment, growth management, siting of unpopular land uses and eminent domain.
