Dear Prof. Larson,
I wanted to write to you to say a huge THANK YOU for setting me up with the Siena/Cambodia program this summer. The Siena program was incredible and it was an honor to be taught by people with such a wealth of experience. Tess was an amazing mentor and [Cambodia] supervisor and I feel I learned so much from her. Without your guidance I may never have had such an opportunity and I will forever be grateful for how you have influenced my life.
Thanks to you I have found an area of law I find incredibly interesting and I am currently trying to find ways to pursue it in New Orleans. I have joined ELLA for the semester and am also taking a seminar in historic preservation. Again, thank you so much for the opportunities you have given me, and I hope to one day be able to pay it back (or forward).
Sincerely,
Georgia Noble Ainsworth, Siena '12, Tulane Law School '13
One of my biggest regrets has always been that I never took advantage of the study abroad programs that my undergraduate university offered. Fortunately, I got a second chance when I came to Tulane Law. I seized the opportunity and participated in the Siena program; an experience that was not only unforgettable (and really fun), but promoted my growth as a student and a lawyer immeasurably. First, the faculty is amazing. Professor Gordley is, with no exaggeration, one of the world’s experts in Comparative and Roman law, and the chance to study with him while immersed in that culture is priceless. Plus, (as anyone who has been lucky enough to hear one of Professor Gordley’s Lord of the Rings-themed Property hypos knows) he is absolutely hilarious. The Italian professors are also fantastic, and it is fun and enlightening to compare their teaching styles with those of the American professors. Additionally, the Siena program touches on much more than just law. Its emphasis on ethical issues that arise in the realm of cultural protections enables students to consider the relationship between law and ethics, i.e. the ethical ramifications of judicial decisions and legislation (as well as museum practices)—a subject that is crucially important and yet somewhat glossed-over in traditional law school courses. Finally, Siena affords students the opportunity to see and experience firsthand the subject of so much international attention and protection: the art itself. Professor Flora’s expertise in Sienese art is seemingly limitless, and with her as their ambassador, students get to become mini-experts themselves. From personal experience, having the knowledge and vocabulary that I gained from the Siena program has greatly enriched the way I experience art. In sum, the program as a whole is fabulous—the professors, the subject matter, and the location work in concert to create for students a fun, mind-expanding experience. And I haven’t even begun to talk about the food or wine.

Ciao! Ciao, Chana.
Just wanted to say I had an amazing time this month. Everything start to finish was STELLAR. I thoroughly enjoyed all professors and have taken away a wealth of information that I am hopeful will serve me well in my career. I appreciate all of your hard work. Bravo!
Best,

From Student Evaluations:
“The opportunity to have such close contact with the professors, and have conversations with them both within and without class [was what I liked most]. In law school you are usually in very large classes, and this was like having all seminars. Because of the proximity and attention, I learned a lot. Additionally, Italy is beautiful and it is always fun to make new friends. Most of the kids were great, and I enjoyed getting to know them."
(Siena Student 2012)
"I think the courses give a great outline of issues of art that would allow us to really pursue internships in the field with a leg up on other applicants."
(Siena Student 2012)
"I learned about a subject-area I was completely unfamiliar with... Siena was the perfect city for this experience.”
(Siena Student, 2011)
“I obtained a greater appreciation for art and cultural heritage. I now understand why it is so important that we preserve the past for our future. I also sympathize with the art historians and archaeologists whose passion is art, heritage, and antiquities. It also gave me and interesting perspective on war time issues and natural disaster issues.”
(Siena Student, 2011)
“I think I gained a more well-rounded perspective on international law, art, culture, and history... this added to my personal appreciation of cultural heritage/diversity.”
(Siena Student, 2011)
“Participating in the symposium was an excellent experience. The location in Siena was the best part of the program and the professors really were wonderful.”
(Siena Student, 2011)
"Absolutely [the field trips were worthwhile]. Being able to see the kinds of cultural artifacts we were discussing and learn about their context made the area of law seem more real."
(Siena Student, 2010)
"Great to see the insight of a man [Professor Francioni] who was part of many of the treaties we read. Great and deeply interesting. "

"Yes [I would recommend this program to other students], very strong program, fantastic classes/ professors but definitely recommend them to do Siena travel research before coming."
(Siena Student, 2010)
"All professors are very accomplished in their fields and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet them and learn from all of them. Siena is a beautiful city to live in."
(Siena Student, 2010)
"I just cannot find this level of instruction from such experienced professionals anywhere else."
(Siena Student, 2010)
"Yes [I would recommend this program to other students]. I loved it. Really interesting - topics heightened by virtue of being in Siena. Great faculty coordination."
(Siena Student, 2010)
"Honestly, it was just a delight to listen to Bogdanos b/c it's great to hear from someone who has practical experience in the field - no one else could have told us the same stories."
(Siena Student, 2010)
"I would recommend this program to others because the professors were excellent and very knowledgeable. I learned so much in a short period of time."
(Siena Student, 2009)
"I would absolutely recommend this program to others. It was exceptionally well put together, crafted and taught. I feel very priviledged to have been able to learn about art law at THIS program. It is a great opportunity to deal with a topic that essentially affects development of culture and civilization. It provides the opportunity to look at various subjects from different perspectives."
(Siena Student, 2009)
"Colonel Bogdanos was incredibly inspiring! It was an amazing experience and may very well have changed my life."
